Raleigh Down To Stage 1 Water Restrictions

Credit: AP Online
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Mayor Charles Meeker announced that beginning today, water use restrictions in the City of Oaks will be lowered to Stage 1 restrictions.

Mayor Charles Meeker called for a 10 a.m. press conference today to address the city's water use restrictions.

Due to the recent rain in the area, Raleigh's water supply storage pool in Falls Lake rose to 251.5 feet, leading the City Manager to authorize implementation of the Stage 1 water conservation restrictions.

Stage 1 restrictions provide for irrigation one day per week. Odd addresses are allowed to irrigate on Tuesdays and even numbered addresses will be allowed on Wednesdays. Irrigation on those days by automatic irrigation systems will only be permitted from midnight to 10 a.m. Residents who use Raleigh-supplied water in garden hose attached lawn irrigation sprinklers may irrigate only from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and also between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., according to a city press release.

Other restrictions include:
Raleigh Public Utilities Dept. customers may water two days per week on the odd/even system when physically holding a hose in their hand from 6-10 a.m. and 6-10 p.m.
Water for other uses such as car washing or power washing driveways, sidewalks, and homes are limited to Saturdays and Sundays only.

Restrictions are mandatory for the city of Raleigh and surrounding areas that get their water from Raleigh.
