Local Vietnam Refugee Celebrates ‘Freedom’

Credit: AP Online
RALEIGH, N.C. -

From Vietnam to America, one foreign refugee is celebrating the Fourth for the first time as a United States' citizen.

Two weeks ago he passed his naturalization test.

Y'Lhiam Enuol, 49, fled to America five years ago. He left his family and his medical practice to work as a welder.  He currently studies English at Wake Technical Community College.

"I miss my homeland, I feel I am American but I don't speak English well, I will continue to come to class to learn English"

In a country ruled by communism, Vietnam remains the second largest exporter of refugees.
