Wake Forest, embracing our little shop with its shoppers and support by word of mouth, has brought an awareness throughout the community of our projects in Congo, Africa. Our customers are very important to us as they give their tax exempt donated items for resale. Our shop was established to help offset the shipping costs of sending medical supplies and equipment to a hospital in Kinshasa. This hospital started as a one story building and has grown into a multi- building facility as well as plans for a second site to house the orthopedic surgical unit that we are sending this month. House of Joy will be sending 3 containers within the month filled with thousands of dollars worth of valuable resources. Several team members will be going to Congo as these shipments arrive in the country. House of Joy has been declared an international NGO from the government of Congo and has been given the privilege of a financial exemption for duty free imports. House of Joy is able to have impact because of collaboration with Fellowship of Christ Church in Cary and Oak Tree Ministries as we come alongside over 400 Chrisco Churches in Congo. Our support is broader than Wake Forest and includes help from Rolesville Storage Center in Rolesville as well as many friends in Zebulon who would like to see us with a 'home place' for developing strong relationships within this little triangle of eastern Wake County. Our mission of restoration is aimed at "restoring the heart" of the individual, the family and the community. This "restoring of the heart" is a faith-based initiative for providing helps that generate change and encourage growth for wholeness. These helps are varied as they reflect the giftings and talents offered through our volunteers as well as resources that are gathered for distribution to those in need.
