WELCOME!! That is what you, the veteran, will here when you walk through the door of the new American Legion Hall located on Holding Avenue, across from the Wake Forest Library. Post 187 is now fully in the building, and they are not alone...more on this later.
The monthly meeting always begins the same, with a meal. But this is not typical military fare. Hank, the "chef" of the Post creates a meal that is both unique (basicly it is a surprise) and very tasty. Last night, it was Bar-B-Q; and better BBQ was no where in site.
At 7pm the business meeting begins. Some in attendence don their Legion Caps, and other simply stand. All in the room have one thing in common, we gave at minimum time for our country, and some gave more...
There is always a special chair reserved at the meeting for those who gave their all for these United States. The POW/MIA seat is in the front of the room, facing those in attendence. A combat helmet sits on the seat of the chair, giving the appearance that the seat is being held by someone who will be right back. That is the object of the chair, to remember those who have not yet returned.
The post web site, although it is new and improved, it is new. There is not a lot of information up and available as-of yet, but that too will change. There is one small thing that is usefull though, if you want more information you can simply visit the website and fill out the request form. Someone, more than likely the Post Commander, will give you a call.
I told you earlier the Legion is not alone in the building. That is because they offer the building to other organizations to hold meetings. Currently, the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) and the Marine Corp League meet on different nights.
All-in-all, the American Legion is a group of men and women who served this nation proudly in all branches of the military; now they are proudly serving the community of Wake Forest. Bid them welcome….
